INTERNATIONAL & MULTICULTURAL
FAMILY MEDIATION
I assist families navigate separation across borders, cultures, and worldviews
Families today often span countries, languages, and cultures. When separation or conflict arises, these differences can add emotional and practical complexity — especially when children are involved. International and multicultural mediation offers a safe, neutral space to work through these issues and find lasting, child-focused solutions.
What are international and multicultural family mediation?
With this type of mediation I work with couples and families dealing with:
-
Cross-border issues (e.g. relocation, child abduction, long-distance parenting)
-
Cultural or religious differences around parenting, finances, or family roles
-
Language barriers or differing expectations about family life
-
Mixed-nationality relationships or extended families living in different countries
When Can I make a difference?
-
One parent wants to move abroad with the children
-
Concerns about child abduction or wrongful retention
-
Disagreements about where children live, go to school, or spend holidays
-
Conflicts over religious upbringing, education, or gender roles
-
Navigating parenting after separation when values or communication styles differ
-
Helping children maintain meaningful connections with both sides of the family, across borders
What Makes multicultural or international Mediation Different?
-
Culturally awareness – I respect and work with your beliefs, values, and traditions
-
Internationally informed – I understand how different legal systems interact ( England and Wales, French and Hong Kong), how people live differently in different countries and cultural dynamics.
-
Neutral and child-focused – the goal is cooperation, not blame
-
Co-mediation possible – sometimes with mediators from each relevant country
The Features of my international family mediation:
Mediation can be done in English or French
I have practical knowledge of the three jurisdictions (France, England and Wales, and Hong Kong)
Due to my time spent in Japan, Hong Kong and now in England, I am aware of the difficulties encountered by expats, and a good understanding of the specificities of separations and divorces abroad.
By video conference
Co-mediation with another mediator in more sensitive cases, with mediators from the jurisdiction the couple or one participant is from.
